Russ Smith

The decision has been made, Russ is staying for his senior year.   The majority of Card fans are delighted as his offensive presence and his experience in the back court gives the Cards an excellent chance to advance to a third consecutive Final 4.  So, obviously Russ did not like his chances in the NBA draft, being the reason to  return.   So what does he need to do to improve his situation?    The three main areas for him to work on are   1.  Gain at least 10 pounds, according to Pitino.  …See More

Pitino Hall of Fame

We are all proud of the Cards winning the National Title and also very happy that coach Pitino has been inducted into the Hall of Fame.  it's not every program that can claim they have two coaches that have won two title's and are in the Hall of Fame.  Only ONE program can stake that claim, UL.     I want to be the first to say I stuck my own foot squarely into my own mouth.   About 5 years ago I expressed my disappointment in the progress that Pitino had made here at UL.   Our team had just…See More

NBA Draft

Congrats to the Louisville Cards, both men and ladies for their runs in this year's tourney.   The Card ladies made a great effort and just maybe, if they had all their players (injured) they could have matched up with UConn a little better.  UConn is just a monster of a program.    As for the current NBA draft projections, Gorgui has moved up near the top 20 and Russ Smith is probably a 2nd round pick.   My opinion, both Card players could really help themselves by staying another year.  …See More

The Final Four

We have two Saturday match ups, Louisville vs Wichita State and Syracuse vs Michigan.   I like the Cards chances vs the Shockers.   Wichita has three seniors, Hall, Armistead and Williams but they also have two freshmen they rely on, Baker and Van Vleet.   They use a relatively smaller lineup with Early and Hall at 6-8.    They like to get the ball down the floor and will shoot the three.   Five players have made at least 30 or more three's this season.   The 6-0 Armistead is the primary ball…See More

Duke for the Final 4

Thanks to some great offense once again from Russ Smith and some clutch sub work at the PG from Kevin Ware, the Cards advance to the Elite 8 to face Duke again this season.  As we all remember, Duke handled the Cards very early in the season in Nassau Bahama's  76-71, without injured Gorgui Deing.  Ware was subbing for Siva last night because of foul problems and Russ' 31 points powered UL while Duke guard Seth Curry (29 points, 6-9 from 3 ) was hot from the three in moving Duke past Michigan…See More

Oregon at a Glance

The Cards next opponent, Oregon, won the Pac 12 tourney and has now beaten two pretty good teams in the Big Dance.  (Oklahoma State and St. Louis)   Like Colorado State, the Ducks go pretty much 7 deep and use 5 seniors in that mix.  A senior forward, Singler, seems to handle the ball mostly, like a point forward.  He leads the team in assists but has nearly an equal amount of turnovers.   Of the Oregon losses, 5 have been on the road.   Three of those losses on the road have been by double…See More

Hello Paul,

Glad to hear you are well.  Congratulations on the daughter.  They are a father's joy.

I have been married for 25 years and we have a 21 year old daughter.  Melania, my wife, works from home for a company in Long Island.  Agibail, my daughter, is training to be a sonagrapher.

My career started in electronics and then migrated to computers.  Three years technical training and then 4 years Navy.  WestPac(Pearl Harbor and San Diego).  My career has been as a hired gun, employed by 11 different companies over the last 30 years.  I have been with Toshiba for the last 3 years.

My sister married David Hyberger(PRP) and they moved from Louisville to ETown and ended up in Paducah.  They have three sons, 25-30.  Just last week, they bought a home in PRP and will move back to Louisville when Dave retires.

I remember BC, tell him I said hello.  I still run with David (Dudley) Michels from the old neighborhood.  We get out about once a month.  We used to go to LongHead's in PRP.  Now we go to BJs on the Green Belt Parkway.  Mostly guys that used to hang at Jiffy's on Dixie.  There are a few Dragons that I see there from time to time.  Butch Bowles and his wife Barb, Mike Powell, Mike Johnson and a few others.  Occasionally, we go to Iroquois Pizza which is now owned by Mike Egnew.  I live off of Smyrna Parkway in Highview so I only get out that way on occasion.

Stay in touch.  GO CARDS!

Phillipines....yes, I am quite familiar.  I was stationed on the USS Rathburne FF-1057 in Pearl Harbor 76-77.  We did a six month cruise of the West Pacific (WestPac) which included several port stops in the Phillipines.  Quite an experience for a youngster from KY.

When I married my wife, I was 31 and she was 21.  They called me a crib robber.  Your marriage would qualify for jail time in some cultures.  ;-)

Haha, yea, I am aware of the age diff. but I still look and feel much younger, no special diet or exercise, just genetic, I guess.  I went to Honolulu once a few years back and we did the Pearl Harbor tour.  I love that kind of history.   I have also been to MacArthur Park in Leyte,l Philippines.  Historic WW 11 landing of the great general.  There is much Spanish history and influence in the Philippines.  I was very surprised when I went there and discovered this.   I always thought of the Philippines as Oriental, but it is about like being in Cuba, Puerto Rico or parts of S. America.  I now  know all the Magellen, Spanish occupation and Spanish American war history of that country.  Must have slept thru that at Doss in Mr. Paces history class!!  LOL.
