For Sharin' Karen, the hits just keep on coming...

(Looks like our femme fatale has taken to the internet to lure her next victim. Her submission to sugardaddie.com was recently sent to me by my brother Ernie. What he was doing on there, I have no idea. The site is for wealthy people looking for casual dating opportunities, so I'… Continue

Final Call to the post for Kentucky Racing?

(Churchill bugler Steve Buttleman may be looking to join a Chicago or Blood, Sweat and Tears knockoff band if the fortunes of Kentucky racing continue to demise. His physician wife might need to perform CPR on the dying industry.) Is it TAPS for Kentucky horseracing? It's getting har… Continue

Charmaine Tay verbals to Lady Cards

(Above...is the "King of Pop" acknowledging that he is a big Earl Clark fan by flashing "the five" to onlookers...or is he predicting the number of football wins for 2009? Unfortunately, we'll never know. RIP, Smooth Criminal) Jersey hoopster Charmaine Tay has verballed t… Continue

Angel experienceing the ups and downs of a rookie season

Watching the WNBA Tuesday night game between the Minnesota Lynx and the Atlanta Dream, it seemed strange not to see #35 Angel McCoughtry dominating on the court. It's a whole different ballgame at this level, and rookies do learn the hard way...but, let's face it: The Atlanta Dream needs what she can deliver. First, a three point marksman is sorely needed by the franchise to prevent teams from pacing back in a zone on them. Angel can hit the three. She got no attempts at it last night. Three p… Continue

Better down the road?

Can anyone ever remember (4) Cardinal Basketball players going in the respective NBA and WNBA Drafts? Earl Clark, T-Will, Angel and Candyce? Good, yes! Better down the road? Time will tell. Looking at next year...no Lady Cards will be probable for pro status...unless Tise Wright su… Continue

Walz leaving Louisville

Will they come out at night?

(Even Dan Aykroid is donning his "dress to impress" best for the Downs after Dark) Tonight, they take to the lights. The "most legendary track in the world" will offer 11 races...about 3 or 4 of them after dark...to see if a "20 something" format and tw… Continue

Some thoughts on all this "jumping"

Rutgers head coach C. Viv Stringer howls in dismay as junior Epiphanny Prince announces to jubilant UofL WBB players that she's turning professional. (OK, not really what happened in this photo, but it definitely has polarized some fans) It is a trend I hoped… Continue

Confessions of a Cornhole player

OK, I'll admit it. I've become one of those who tosses a bag filled with seed corn at a wooden platform several yards away. At first, it was a spur of the moment thing. This story begins several years ago... Tailgating before a football game and another player was needed for a game.… Continue

RECAPPING STEPHEN FOSTER DAY

OK, it wasn't the best of days for wagering and handicapping out at the Downs on Saturday. If you followed my selections, I share in your loss and grieve with you. Fortunately, some suggestions received out at the oval helped us recoup and survive. ADVICE never showed up for the Jefferson Cup and ran a "close but no cigar" fourth. Killed us across the board and in the tri. SUCCESSFUL DAN did fire for us, though, in the Nothern Dancer (barely) and return a tidy profit acroass the board. Thanks,… Continue

PREVIEWING STEPHEN FOSTER DAY AT CHURCHILL

Five stakes races and a challenging undercard await racing fans this afternoon at the Downs. Let's get right to it, so we can get out there... Race 7 Jefferson Cup Stakes ADVICE tries the turf for the first time in his career and there's a lot to suggest he'll love it. "Go-go" Gomez rides for Todd Pletcher. I'll play him across the board and box a trifecta with him, NO INFLATION, EL CRESPO and longshot HAR D BOY, a Steve Asmussen late bloomer. Race 8 Northern Dancer Stakes WARRIOR'S REWARD c… Continue

McCoughtry's impact felt immediately by Dream

(Atlanta Dream rookie Angel McCoughtry has impressed WNBA coaches and players after just two games in the league.) After only two games in the WNBA, Angel McCoughtry has been an important force in the Dream's 1-1 record. The ex Lady Card is averaging 12.5 ppg. (2nd on the te… Continue

Summer Bird shocks in the Belmont

(I will write on the blackboard 100 times: "Never bet on the favorite in the Belmont") Yeah, they done done it to me again, gang. Just when it looks like Calvin and Mine That Bird are about to win the Belmont and are skipping to the finish line, uh..oh...something's in a h… Continue

Cards toss in a clinker. 12-0 thumping by the Titans

(Last night's game just may have had a few of you drowning your sorrows early on) It a word it was ugly. It happens. When strong pitching meets weak bats, bad things can and will happen. Give Daniel Renken a lot of credit for confusing the Cardinal batters all night long. Honestly, I… Continue

Baseball, Horses and...Mockingbirds?

(I'd be smiling too if I was headed to California for the weekend to watch baseball. Paul offered to take Tom's place...as long as the lovely Ms. Terilynn still accompanies. Dream on, big guy...And, what's up with the BLUE shirt, Tom?) OK, let's get to it here. First of all, guess I'll… Continue

Mine That Bird at 2-1? YES, PLEASE!

(The Belmont Stakes finish won't look anything like this...) Christmas has come early to horseplayers. Belmont Park is handing out money. $20 will get you $60. $100 will bring $300. The early odds of 2-1 on Mine That Bird probably will dip below 2-1 at post time Satu… Continue

Silver Stars cut Candyce

Rough water over on Poplar Level Rd.

"Boo boo" goes back to Plan A

(Maybe the Cards fans at "PAT" last night could have used the unbridled enthusiasm of Mr. Borel) They'll run the Belmont Stakes this Saturday with the "big girl" sitting the dance out. Rachel Alexandra, who has a brilliant career ahead of her, will not test the boys in New Y… Continue
